Hi Everyone,

First time to post. Glad I found this site. Was reading several threads on this subject, but couldn't find anything on the P1484 code. My scanner says it has to do with the fan clutch, just not sure what. Any ideas?

There was more discussion of this code when we were all over at trailvoy, but it's a classic fan clutch failure, or less likely a control voltage issue. Pre-2005 fan clutches were notoriously unreliable. When the electroviscous fan clutch RPM isn't near the ROM commanded by the PCM, this code can set. Recommend just changing it.

Thanks Roadie. The wife's TB is 2002 with 173,000 miles on it. Don't know if it has ever been changed out. We bought it with about 80,000 on it. I heard the Dorman replacements were junk. Would like to go with e-fans, just low on funds now. Any ideas on a non-Dorman replacement?

WARNING:
I've been alerted by a member that I've posted the part number for the NEW non-electrical fan clutch here. This is NOT the unit you need for 2002-2007.
1000 apologies! The right part number is AC Delco 15-40133, GM 25790869 (Dorman cross-reference 622-001 but they reportedly have reliability issues)

OEM GM 25816289 is AC Delco 15-40144 and there's one on Ebay for $100. I'd grab that myself if I wanted another spare.

Otherwise they're in the $200 range. I haven't heard bad things about the HAYDEN 3201, but I don't recall much discussion about the alternative FOUR SEASONS 46024. ALl of those are available on Rockauto, Ebay, Amazon or the usual outlets. Don't get suckered into paying more than $250 for any of them. But that $100 is a screaming deal IMHO.

I googled the AC Delco (15-40144) and found them on several sites at less than $100 each. One amazon site is $88. is the pn you mentioned the clutch/fan assy, the clutch only or the fan only. When I looked at one site, it said the number was for a 2008/2009 TB (and one site said not a good pn for a 2002.

I have a 2002 and got the code 2x and then nothing, but sometimes (and less often than more) I hear what sounds like a jet taking off. Assume the issue is the clutch going out and the fan defaults to the high speed (at least I would hope the engineer designed it that way).

Is the AC a good part to buy? Is there more to the fix than changing out the clutch. I asked at the scrap dealer the other day, and he wanted $100 bucks for a used one (and didn't have any).

Thoughts?

Crap, wish I would have read thru this thread to the end. Amazon $88 and Prime shipping, which I have.
This is the second Dorman part I will be replacing in 2 years time. First one was warranty replacement. The wiring harness had a wire that broke at the crimp. I ordered an AC Delco unit this time and hope it is the last time!
