OK so my orignal unit is taking a crap in another thread we have chased gremlins and have nailed the issue pretty much down to the head unit. So my sister had an older but still working radio that she had in her old car before it was totaled its a Panasonic Model # CQ-DF88EUC So I know I have to buy the specific wiring harness for this radio about $20 bucks off ebay. But I am not sure what else I need besides a mounting kit and any help would be appreciated. I dont care if I lose chimes or steering controls. Also heres some pics so you know what I am working with. View attachment 34104 Any help would be great thanks!

At the very least you'll also need an antenna adapter

Crutchfield has all that stuff and wiring diagrams to help make the harness fit the vehicle. Even if you don't care about chimes or steering controls, you'll need some sort of intelligent harness to run switched power unless you tap into switched power down at the ignition switch or one of the many fuses in the fuse block that are fed with switched power.

yeah I have to buy that the radio is second hand and they didn't take the harness out just the radio I can get one for around $8 on ebay but my understanding is the factory has 2 harnesses the aftermarket has one somewhere these two have to come together I got a quote from a place that does stereos at $80.06 thats for everything but the 16 pin and another 55 to install I just dont know what to do.

You may still need that smart module to cover the second half of the factory harness.

Unfortunately the last GM radio I replaced was in a '95. They've only gone crazier since.

Use the metra #70-2003. You won't be using the other (smaller) plug.

Your guy is going to have to find a source of switched power for the red wire of the radio connector. Some guys have used one of the wires for the 4wd switch. I haven't used it myself so I don't know off hand which wire to use.

So -

dash mounting kit
70-2003 vehicle harness
antenna adapter
16 pin connector for panasonic

- and you should be all set.
