I replaced the door hinge pins on my 1992 GMC Sierra 2500 on the passenger side today. How do you replace the door spring without killing yourself or damaging the truck? It needs to be compressed over an inch to get it in position on the door body and the the lever that keeps the door open.
I looked at some YouTube videos and I didn't find one that showed how to replace the spring.
Did a search on "hinge pin" on this site and got no results.
Thanks,
-Dave

I bought the spring compressor at Harbor Freight. It made the job on my Blazer easy to do and it was safe.

think this might help?

or this:

I was looking for that video! I saw the one on replacing the pins and they referenced that another video showed replacing the spring. I couldn't find it. The zip ties are a great trick. I used a wood vise to compress the spring. I zip tied one side and I used long nosed vise grips on the other side. Opened the mouth as wide as I could and got about 4-5 coils compressed.
Thanks!
